Quiet Diary

Privacy Policy

Effective date:

Quiet Diary is a private diary. This policy explains exactly what stays on your phone, what is sent only when you ask, and what is never collected. It covers the Quiet Diary app for Android and this website.

In short

Your entries, photos and recordings are stored only on your phone, encrypted. There are no ads and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. You do not need an account. Something leaves your phone only when you tap Transcribe or Tidy on a single note, when you send us feedback, and in the small anonymous usage report described below, which you can turn off.

Your diary stays on your phone

Entries, photos and voice recordings are stored only on your phone. The database is encrypted with SQLCipher, and photos and recordings are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The keys are kept in the Android Keystore. Your diary is not included in Android’s automatic system backup.

When you add a photo, it is compressed and its EXIF data is removed, including GPS location, camera model and the time it was taken.

Deleted entries go to Recently Deleted and are kept for 30 days, then permanently deleted together with their encrypted recordings and photos.

Cloud AI: transcribing and tidying

Transcribing a voice note and tidying text use cloud AI and run only when you tap them for a specific note. The first time, the app explains what will happen and asks for your consent. Only that one recording (an m4a audio file) or that one piece of text is uploaded.

Our server passes it, in memory, to our AI provider (OpenAI) for processing. When processing is done, we do not store it, do not write it to logs and do not use it for training. OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models; it may keep it for up to 30 days only to detect abuse.

To count your monthly allowance, our server records an anonymous account ID, the month, the number of seconds transcribed and the number of uses. It never records what you said or wrote.

This anonymous account is created only the first time you use cloud AI. It needs no login, and we do not ask for your email or any other personal information.

Anonymous usage statistics (you can turn this off)

At most once a day, the app sends a small anonymous report: a random install ID (not your device ID), the app version, the Android version, the app language, your region, whether Pro is unlocked, and a range for how many entries you have.

It also counts how many times each feature was used and how many times something went wrong — only the numbers.

To understand what makes people buy Pro, it records where you saw Pro, opened the purchase page or completed a purchase (only the entry point and a count). When you buy, it records a snapshot in ranges: how many days since install, how many entries, how many free tries and sticker previews. After buying, you may answer “What made you decide to support us?” by picking options; we do not collect free text.

It includes the install source provided by Google Play Install Referrer, grouped as an ad campaign name, a link source (such as this website) or “organic install”. It contains no device identifier.

The report never includes any diary content. You can turn it off with “Send anonymous usage stats” in Settings; this clears the local counts and stops sending.

Feedback you send

When you send feedback from the app, we store what you submit on our servers so we can reply and investigate: your message, its type, an email address if you choose to add one, and the attachments you pick (up to 5 images and 1 video of up to 60 seconds). Image attachments are re-encoded as JPEG without EXIF data.

The app also attaches the app version, Android version, device model, language and the random install ID, which you can see and remove item by item before sending, plus your region and whether Pro is unlocked.

No account is needed: the random install ID lets the app show your own feedback and our replies. Feedback is not affected by the statistics setting.

Ratings, updates and downloads

Store ratings use Google Play’s in-app review; we cannot see what you write there. Update reminders use Google Play’s in-app updates.

Fonts and other content such as sticker packs are downloaded when needed from our content server (cdn.quietdiary.app). These requests contain no information about you.

Purchases

Payment is handled by Google Play; we never see your payment details. Purchase records are processed by RevenueCat, which we use to manage purchases. The only extra details we give RevenueCat are the purchase-source items listed under anonymous usage statistics.

This website

quietdiary.app counts visits with Umami, an open-source analytics tool we run on our own server. It sets no cookies and does not store your IP address; it records the page, the referring site, your country and device type.

Sharing

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers or use it for advertising.

Children

Quiet Diary does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If what the app collects changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
